How to choose a powerful outdoor spot?

A good outdoor spot is not just an eye-catching one. Four technical criteria determine whether it will really last in time, resist the seasons and deliver the light you need.

1. Lumens, not watts

The wattage indicates the consumption, not the brightness. For the actual brightness, it is the lumen which counts:

  • 10 – 80 lumens: decorative tags, atmosphere
  • 100 – 300 lumens: terminals and aisle appliqués
  • 500 – 1,500 lumens: entrance, garage, parking
  • 2000+ lumens: projectors, large facades, safety

2. The IP index, the only guarantee of waterproofness

The IP is a two-digit code: dust, then water. For external use in France, aim at a minimum IP44. For ground lighting near a gutter or swimming pool, IP65 or more.

Lumihome publishes the exact IP on each product sheet. No marketing round.

3. Solar, 230V or 12V?

Three solutions, three cases of use. The solar is unbeatable for flexibility and zero cost but depends on the sun. The 230V guarantees constant power but requires a connection (and often an electrician). The 12V low voltage is ideal around the swimming pools and for secure self-installation.

4. Manufacturing quality

Failures do not come from LEDs — they come from joints, motion sensor (UV ageing), battery (12 to 24 months on cheap models) and foot (rust). stainless steel or heat-lapped aluminium, with replaceable lithium battery.

Garden shelter: why light it up?

The utility of the garden shelter

As mentioned above, the garden shelter is very convenient. It can be a storage space to take over the control of storage in your home. Christmas decorations, seasonal changes, tools of any kind... The garden shelter allows to keep a house well orderly and uncluttered. But, this clever cabanon also has other functions. You can also take advantage of the possibility of a small storage space. very well arrange in a place of relaxation to read, isolate and escape. You can also make it a playground for children. Finally, if you work at home and you need a quiet and serene place, the garden shelter can turn into an office. There are many ideas, but whatever the function of your cabanon, lighting is not an option

The importance of lighting

Whether you choose to tinker, work, or read in your garden shed, you will need good lighting. Indeed, once the night falls, you must be able to continue using your cabanon and get there easily. Moreover, during the winter, natural light quickly gives way to the dark. So, if you have to store a bike or do some DIY work at the end of the day, you must have good brightness. And then, admit that if you need to perform precision tasks, or if you have chosen to settle in your caban to telework, it is better not to have the Many garden shelters have relatively small windows. Others are completely free of them. To avoid the need for a flashlight every time you move around your cabin, lighting is required.

The different lighting systems

To lighten your garden shelter, several solutions are available to you. Find out which ones.

Electric lighting: the most obvious solution

When you think of lighting, you automatically think of electricity. It is actually the most convenient solution to light up your garden shelter. The cabanon being a small space, you need diffuse lighting like a wall-mounted appliqué. You can place some appliqués, inside, but also outside, so as to easily find the way to your cabin in the darkness. Lumihome offers you 230V LED appliques which effectively illuminate each desired area, explains Christophe Coelho. Whether you choose the Nina, Genova or Madrid wall lamp, you are sure to achieve high-level power thanks to quality materials and components. The interest of Lumihome solutions is that they are all designed to last in time, even if placed outside. Resistant and robust, 230V LED lamps are equipped with a stainless steel chassis on which is added a corrosion-resistant treatment that protects the luminaire from rust, but above all from moisture.

Finally, if your garden shelter is for children or for your relaxing moments, why not opt for decorative lighting? Again, Lumihome has what it takes. Light garland pack or decorative sphere, it's up to you to choose the atmosphere you want to bring to your cabin. Our light ball simply sits on a surface for decorative and warm lighting explains Christophe Coelho. Its IP65 protection index will allow you to use it even if the humidity is important. As for our outdoor garland, you can bring a cozy spirit to your cabin, especially if it serves as a relaxation corner or play area for children.

The electrical solutions are therefore numerous. The advantage of LED electric lighting is that it is economical, durable and very resistant. It is also practical and aesthetic, but necessarily requires a quality electrical installation within your cabanon. If this is not possible, then you can opt for solar.

Solar lighting system: alternative

To light up the outside of your cabin, you can use solar lighting. At Lumihome we offer you the Venus solar appliqués, Liberty or Luna, which will light up the outside of your garden hut in a very efficient way. Unlike standard solar luminaires sold on the market, Lumihome solar solutions contain a unique and patented technology that generates a power worthy of 230V explains Christophe Coelho. And above all, the solar luminaire is economical and ecological!

But how can you light up the interior of your garden shelter with solar energy? With the Lumihome solar LED projector, it's possible! As powerful as it's economical, it has a solar panel that can be moved up to 4 meters, thanks to its Easy Plug cable, to light up the interior of your garden shelter. So, you can put the projector in your cabin to get diffuse and powerful lighting, and position its solar panel in a place where it can capture the best sunshine. Retrieve the energy from the sun to recharge the battery. At nightfall, stored energy is used to illuminate the interior of your shelter.

We hope to have lit your lantern with regard to the lighting of your garden shelter. Remember that it is an outdoor living space, which can be subjected to moisture, depending on its use and your installation. It is therefore important to choose luminaires with a suitable protective index. The Lumihome solutions are part of it.
