How to choose a powerful outdoor spot?

A good outdoor spot is not just an eye-catching one. Four technical criteria determine whether it will really last in time, resist the seasons and deliver the light you need.

1. Lumens, not watts

The wattage indicates the consumption, not the brightness. For the actual brightness, it is the lumen which counts:

  • 10 – 80 lumens: decorative tags, atmosphere
  • 100 – 300 lumens: terminals and aisle appliqués
  • 500 – 1,500 lumens: entrance, garage, parking
  • 2000+ lumens: projectors, large facades, safety

2. The IP index, the only guarantee of waterproofness

The IP is a two-digit code: dust, then water. For external use in France, aim at a minimum IP44. For ground lighting near a gutter or swimming pool, IP65 or more.

Lumihome publishes the exact IP on each product sheet. No marketing round.

3. Solar, 230V or 12V?

Three solutions, three cases of use. The solar is unbeatable for flexibility and zero cost but depends on the sun. The 230V guarantees constant power but requires a connection (and often an electrician). The 12V low voltage is ideal around the swimming pools and for secure self-installation.

4. Manufacturing quality

Failures do not come from LEDs — they come from joints, motion sensor (UV ageing), battery (12 to 24 months on cheap models) and foot (rust). stainless steel or heat-lapped aluminium, with replaceable lithium battery.

How does solar lighting work?

How does solar lighting work?

Solar lighting has the wind in its current form. Practical and ecological, it has benefited from the many advances in technology to be very efficient and powerful today. Declined in terminals, appliqués, or spots, it adapts to our expectations. But, how does solar lighting work? We know that it needs the natural and inexhaustible energy of the sun to fulfill its function, but do we know exactly how it works? We explain everything about the workings and the mechanism of solar lighting in the this article.

Light on Alexandre-Edmond Becquerel

It is impossible to talk about solar lighting without mentioning the name Alexandre-Edmond Becquerel. Indeed, even if photovoltaics only make mention of him in recent years, it must be known that he experienced a first expansion a long time ago, under the impulse of the Becquerel family. It is Antoine César Becquerel and his son Alexandre Edmond Becquerel who discovered for the first time in 1839 the photovoltaic effect. So it was certainly at the time to demonstrate only the electrical effects produced under We were still far from the first silicon solar panels built in 1954 and the photovoltaic cells today, but the adventure of photovoltaics and solar energy was on.

How does the solar panel work?

Composition of the solar panel

First of all, it must be borne in mind that LED lighting is composed of:

- a battery;

- a solar panel made up of photovoltaic cells. This solar panel will exploit the photoelectric effect that manifests itself when certain materials come into contact with sunlight and emit electrons.

The solar panel has one essential element: a module that converts the energy of the sun into electricity. The latter consists of a number of silicon cells and two layers connected by conductive wires. As on the batteries, these two superimposed layers create a difference in potential that allows the electrical current to be generated: the upper layer has an excess electrons, while the lower layer is in a lack of electrons.

Operation of solar panel

Solar lighting has the same function as a photovoltaic installation, except that it must be imagined on a small scale.

The solar panel will be struck by the electrons contained in the sun's rays throughout the day, when exposed to sunlight. This is the first step. The photoelectric effect will therefore occur at that time: the electrons produced during the impact will pass through both layers and produce the electric current. The energy collected so the day will be stored in the battery and then supplied and powered the LED bulb at the desired time.

It should be noted that there are different types of photovoltaic cells that depend on the quality of silicon used in the manufacturing process, which will lead to yield differences, which means that it is important to be very vigilant. The efficiency is the ratio between the energy that comes on the panel and the energy that comes out in the form of electricity. In Lumihome, we use single crystal silicon cells. These are the most expensive but also the most efficient ones. Their efficiency is much higher than other types of cells.

Solar LED lighting: a wide range of solutions

Practical, economical and ecological, solar LED lighting is becoming more and more attractive. And because of this, it is also aesthetic and offers a multitude of solutions to adapt to your needs.

L-apply solar wall

To illuminate a porch, entrance or garage door, solar wall panels are a preferred solution. Lumihome offers a multitude of models, which will blend perfectly into your decor, whether your home is modern or traditional. From the exterior solar applique Venus, to the living applique, to the Luxor model, you will necessarily find the solution that will bring a touch of refinement to your wall.

The decorative lamp

Solar lighting is primarily practical, but it is also aesthetic. That's why Lumihome has developed the solar nomadic lamp in stainless steel, to be placed where you like. To illuminate an outdoor dinner, or to brighten up an evening with friends, this nomadic lamp is a useful and decorative object at the same time.

The solar recessed spot

The spots are simply perfect for a marking along a path or a swimming pool. But, if this type of lighting has not been thought up, it is difficult to install it a posteriori. Solar recessed spots can be a solution. Simple to set up, they allow to bring refined and quality lighting to a driveway or terrace without needing to connect it to the 230V power grid.

The solar outer terminal

The solar terminal is ideal for delineating an alley, marking a path, or framing the contours of a terrace or swimming pool. Discover the wide range of Lumihome with the models Diva, Sapphire, or Daytona, and enjoy their contemporary lines and their incomparable elegance.

The solar projector

If you are looking for powerful lighting, you can opt for the solar projector. Designed to illuminate the exteriors in a powerful and precise way, this luminaire also brings an aesthetic touch to your garden. The Lumihome solar LED projector is equipped with a sun panel that is unscrewed, ideal for lighting a shaded area. Autonomous and ultra-performing, it combines a solar sensor, a more efficient LI-Ion battery and high-end SMD LEDs for lighting as powerful as a traditional projector.

The advantages of solar lighting

Economic and ecological lighting

Solar luminaires have the advantage of being economical at first. They use the free energy of the sun to illuminate your exteriors, and contrary to the ideas received, they are very accessible. Lumihome offers reliable and resistant models, whose interchangeable battery allows you to keep your product for a very long time. You save money on buying, but also on use, and you will quickly cushion the cost of acquiring your luminaire thanks to its durability and low energy consumption.

Autonomous and safe lighting

Solar lighting is autonomous. Thanks to the presence or dusk detector, it automatically lights up and turns off. And if there is a power cut, solar lighting continues to light you. Moreover, it is safe. With solar lighting, the dangers of electrocution are exigent! It is ideal for animals or children in the early age.

An easy-to-install solution

Solar lighting is easy to install. Our range quickly installs and does not need to be connected to the 230V. You can forget the tedious cables and connections. Screw, it is installed Christophe Coelho

Low maintenance

Solar luminaires do not require any special maintenance. Just dust removal is enough to clean the solar sensors. The Lumihome solar luminaires are designed in stainless steel that protects them from the most difficult external conditions. Robust, they defy rust, but also salty air. To design them, we use high quality materials to image UV-resistant reflectors that do not tarnish with time Christophe Coelho

Efficient and powerful lighting

Unlike the ideas received, solar lighting is now very effective. At Lumihome, we use a UV amplifier combined with an interchangeable Li-Ion battery and SMD LEDs, to achieve incomparable power coupled with record range.

You know the way solar lighting works and the reasons why it works. It's the most economical and environmentally friendly lighting solution, which also breathes simplicity in terms of installation, use or maintenance. You would be wrong to take it away!
