How to choose a powerful outdoor spot?

A good outdoor spot is not just an eye-catching one. Four technical criteria determine whether it will really last in time, resist the seasons and deliver the light you need.

1. Lumens, not watts

The wattage indicates the consumption, not the brightness. For the actual brightness, it is the lumen which counts:

  • 10 – 80 lumens: decorative tags, atmosphere
  • 100 – 300 lumens: terminals and aisle appliqués
  • 500 – 1,500 lumens: entrance, garage, parking
  • 2000+ lumens: projectors, large facades, safety

2. The IP index, the only guarantee of waterproofness

The IP is a two-digit code: dust, then water. For external use in France, aim at a minimum IP44. For ground lighting near a gutter or swimming pool, IP65 or more.

Lumihome publishes the exact IP on each product sheet. No marketing round.

3. Solar, 230V or 12V?

Three solutions, three cases of use. The solar is unbeatable for flexibility and zero cost but depends on the sun. The 230V guarantees constant power but requires a connection (and often an electrician). The 12V low voltage is ideal around the swimming pools and for secure self-installation.

4. Manufacturing quality

Failures do not come from LEDs — they come from joints, motion sensor (UV ageing), battery (12 to 24 months on cheap models) and foot (rust). stainless steel or heat-lapped aluminium, with replaceable lithium battery.

In summary

For an outdoor spot that lasts: lumens adapted to your use, IP44 minimum (65 if direct exposure), consistent power supply with your project, and quality materials. Lumihome masteres the 4 criteria on the entire range.

Optimize solar lighting in winter
Don't be mistaken: solar lighting also works in winter. The days are shorter and the weather less mild, but the weather is not too long. Solar lighting Keep lighting the outsides even in winter. There are just a few tips to apply to make the most of them. So, what are they? How to optimize its solar lighting in winter? You are told everything in this article.

Solar lighting in winter

Thinking that solar appliqués and terminals only work in the presence of the sun or in very sunny areas is part of the misconceptions about solar lighting. The latter works even in autumn and winter. But, be careful, installed outside, it will suffer the effects of rain, cold, wind and sometimes even snow. So it is necessary to choose a quality solar light if you want to take full advantage of your product. At Lumihome, all our solar lamps are waterproof. Moreover, they benefit from an additional surface treatment that effectively protects them from harsh external conditions and weather. However, if snow accumulates on the solar panel, it could hinder the arrival of the sun panel. the light. Therefore, you will need to clean this panel regularly with a damp cloth to get rid of snow in winter, and dust and leaves dead for the rest of the time.

How to optimize solar lighting in winter?

As mentioned above, to allow your solar luminaire to function properly, even in winter and in case of snow, it is important to clean the solar panel regularly. But, not all. There are also other tips that will allow you to make the most of your solar solution. During the winter season, but also autumn, the days are shorter. The sun is shorter and often cloudy, so your outdoor luminaire has less time to recharge. In any case, the autonomy will obviously be much shorter. However, to allow your product to recharge properly and produce the right dose of energy once the night falls, it is advisable to check that there are the least annoying elements around the solar panel of your lamp. Lumihome technology does not require exposure to the south, since thanks to its solar amplifier our products can recharge even with less sunlight. However, it is important to check that the panel is not embarrassed by branches or certain plants..." · Lumihome points out Christophe Coelho.

Choose the right lighting mode for your Lumihome solar solution

There are no solar lamps for summer and other winter models. But, it is true that some luminaires have features that make them adapt very well to this time of year.

The Lumihome solar solutions work with a mode selector (3 in total). "In the fall and winter phases, we advise our customers to position their solar terminals and appliqués in mode 3. This mode favours power over lighting time and is more suitable for longer nights and shorter charging phases."

That you choose the outer solar applique Pulsar, the Luxor terminal, or built-in solar spots, you can enjoy this feature. This specificity is ideal for the winter season as it allows the luminaire to only light up when needed or when there is a presence detected. Christophe Coelho. Finally, Lumihome has equipped its lighting with a new solar sensor that accepts less direct light to charge the batteries efficiently. Choosing a Lumihome solar luminaire is therefore a means of ensuring that it works in a high quality and above all continuous, regardless of the time of year.

You will understand: solar energy and winter do not only rimmer, since they do as well as well, provided you make the right choice! So, do not hesitate to consult our entire range of solar lighting and opt for the quality Lumihome.
