How to choose a powerful outdoor spot?

Lumens, IP, lighting angle, power supply: the 4 criteria that decide whether your spot survives in winter.

How to choose a powerful outdoor spot?

A good outdoor spot is not just an eye-catching one. Four technical criteria determine whether it will really last in time, resist the seasons and deliver the light you need.

1. Lumens, not watts

The wattage indicates the consumption, not the brightness. For the actual brightness, it is the lumen which counts:

  • 10 – 80 lumens: decorative tags, atmosphere
  • 100 – 300 lumens: terminals and aisle appliqués
  • 500 – 1,500 lumens: entrance, garage, parking
  • 2000+ lumens: projectors, large facades, safety

2. The IP index, the only guarantee of waterproofness

The IP is a two-digit code: dust, then water. For external use in France, aim at a minimum IP44. For ground lighting near a gutter or swimming pool, IP65 or more.

Lumihome publishes the exact IP on each product sheet. No marketing round.

3. Solar, 230V or 12V?

Three solutions, three cases of use. The solar is unbeatable for flexibility and zero cost but depends on the sun. The 230V guarantees constant power but requires a connection (and often an electrician). The 12V low voltage is ideal around the swimming pools and for secure self-installation.

4. Manufacturing quality

Failures do not come from LEDs — they come from joints, motion sensor (UV ageing), battery (12 to 24 months on cheap models) and foot (rust). stainless steel or heat-lapped aluminium, with replaceable lithium battery.

In summary

For an outdoor spot that lasts: lumens adapted to your use, IP44 minimum (65 if direct exposure), consistent power supply with your project, and quality materials. Lumihome masteres the 4 criteria on the entire range.

Everything about the solar outdoor lighting!

With more than 834,000 photovoltaic panel installations in the year 2023 alone, solar energy is becoming more popular than ever to reduce its bills. Nevertheless, there is not only the panels on the roofs to save electricity... In recent years, a new solution has emerged: the solar exterior lighting. So, how does it work? Is it really advantageous? What models do we find on the market? Explanations.

Solar exterior lighting: how does it work?

TheSolar outdoor lighting operates on the same principle as photovoltaic panels. It turns the energy produced by the sun into electricity. A solar luminaire is therefore equipped with a photovoltaic panel that stores the light to convert it into electricity. To make it simple, during the day, it loads its batteries to restore it if necessary, at nightfall.

So we might think that this solution is only effective in regions with a high rate of sunshine... Indeed, as with photovoltaic panels, the first solar luminaires released on the market needed a lot of sun to be effective. Today, thanks to new technologies, including the integration of more sensitive sensors, solar luminaires can capture energy even in grey weather. However, the charging time is extended, especially during winter.

The advantages of solar outdoor lighting

We have seen how solar lighting works, now let us see all its advantages.

A simple installation like hello

Here, no bleeds or unsightly gullies to pass your cables. The solar luminaire is completely independent of electricity, so its installation is completely free of electrical cables. The only complexity is to find a place for it and fix it if you choose to apply it. What is the right location? Well, it all depends on the chosen model. Generally, it is recommended to place its luminaire south facing so that it enjoys maximum sunshine. However, with their rechargeable sensors, even with little brightness, the Lumihome solar solutions can be perfectly placed under a roof thrust or in the shade. This is the case elsewhere from theLED LED LED applique LIBERTY, for example.

A sustainable framework

The outdoor solar luminaires are durable, provided you choose a quality device. In fact, cheap luminaires are often not very easy, or even waterproof, which can lead you to change them prematurely. On the other hand, don't be afraid to invest in a brand known as Lumihome adds Christophe Coelho. The battery of the Solar lamps for garden It is not a question of the cost of replacing it. Some brands do not offer this battery for sale. In this case, it is impossible to replace it and this requires you to change your entire device. At Lumihome, the batteries of our luminaires are interchangeable The aim is to make them sustainable and therefore more ecological. They are guaranteed 3 years.

A beautiful gesture for the planet

Solar lighting does not release CO2 or gas as it works with sunlight.  By choosing this clean lighting system, you act against global warming and together with environmental preservation.

Savings at the Key

With the constant rise in electricity prices, there are no longer small savings. Although the price of a luminaire may seem high when buying, it will be quickly profitable on your electricity bill. It is also valid for the communities. In France, it is estimated that public lighting accounts for 41% of the electricity consumption in the communities. To deal with this energy crisis, many municipalities equip themselves with solar lamps. Yet, a solar lamp costs twice as much as a l classic street, but at the price of electricity, the return on investment is quickly realized.

A powerful lighting solution

We're not going to lie, the solar lighting market has a bad reputation. But, why? Water infiltration, oxidation, poor light... We go back to the poor quality systems sold in discount brands. Yet today, the (real) professionals in the sector incorporate high-performance technology into their luminaires: the monocrystalline panel. Its assets ? Whatever the radiation of the sun (direct or indirect), it stores energy and restores it for 8 hours.

The different types of solar lighting

Brighten the garden alley, brighten the terrace, sublimate a massif, highlight the pool at night... Depending on your needs and desires, you will find many types of solar lighting.
