Lumens, IP, lighting angle, power supply: the 4 criteria that decide whether your spot survives in winter.

How to choose a powerful outdoor spot?

A good outdoor spot is not just an eye-catching one. Four technical criteria determine whether it will really last in time, resist the seasons and deliver the light you need.

1. Lumens, not watts

The wattage indicates the consumption, not the brightness. For the actual brightness, it is the lumen which counts:

  • 10 – 80 lumens: decorative tags, atmosphere
  • 100 – 300 lumens: terminals and aisle appliqués
  • 500 – 1,500 lumens: entrance, garage, parking
  • 2000+ lumens: projectors, large facades, safety

2. The IP index, the only guarantee of waterproofness

The IP is a two-digit code: dust, then water. For external use in France, aim at a minimum IP44. For ground lighting near a gutter or swimming pool, IP65 or more.

Lumihome publishes the exact IP on each product sheet. No marketing round.

3. Solar, 230V or 12V?

Three solutions, three cases of use. The solar is unbeatable for flexibility and zero cost but depends on the sun. The 230V guarantees constant power but requires a connection (and often an electrician). The 12V low voltage is ideal around the swimming pools and for secure self-installation.

4. Manufacturing quality

Failures do not come from LEDs — they come from joints, motion sensor (UV ageing), battery (12 to 24 months on cheap models) and foot (rust). stainless steel or heat-lapped aluminium, with replaceable lithium battery.

In summary

For an outdoor spot that lasts: lumens adapted to your use, IP44 minimum (65 if direct exposure), consistent power supply with your project, and quality materials. Lumihome masteres the 4 criteria on the entire range.

How to light a reading or relaxing corner in your garden?

When the beautiful days arrive, what more pleasant than to settle in the garden to read? So, you have created a little bubble of serenity in the open air, with everything it takes to enjoy it: adequate furniture, sun protection, decorative objects, etc. But, have you thought about lighting? To continue enjoying this little haven of peace, even during the sweet summer evenings, good lighting is required. Here are all our tips to illuminate a reading or relaxing corner in the garden.

Specific needs to be taken into account

Whether it's the terrace, the entrance or the relaxing corner, theexterior lighting Depends on several parameters. The same type of outdoor lamp is not chosen, nor the same lighting temperature or intensity to light a front porch or terrace, for example.

For your reading area, focus on these three criteria:

  • Visual comfort: To read effortlessly and relax without eye fatigue, lighting must be balanced: neither too intense nor too weak. Imagine a soft light, like a sunset, which lights up enough without dazzling.

  • The atmosphere: Here, it is a reading and/or relaxing area. The aim is to relax and enjoy, installed on a ottoman, a suspended chair or a deckchair. The atmosphere must be conducive to relaxation. Your lighting will be soft, soothing, neither too cold nor too bright.

  • Practice: A well thought out lighting, it is also functional lighting. It must be well positioned. All key areas must be illuminated, and of course no cable must be dragged. Your space must be as comfortable as it is practical.

Lighting a reading or relaxing corner in the garden: the lights that are well

In the field of exterior lighting, each light source has its own role. built-in spots and terminals are made to mark, appliques to decorate the walls of your facade or terrace, while the projectors highlight... So, what outdoor lights choose to illuminate a reading or relaxing corner in the garden?

The table lamp to be placed for nomadic lighting

The Solar lamp to be installed, it's the ideal asset to create a cosy atmosphere for your reading area. It diffuses soft and sifted light, perfect for reading or relaxing. Easy to move, it adapts to all needs placed where you want, all without any need to plug in or extend. Want to read on your outdoor sofa or to fit in your Chilean? The table lamp follows you. 的In addition to being practical, it is a real decorative element that brings style and elegance to your outdoor spaces, adds Christophe Coelho, founder of Lumihome. Its elegant and modern design allows to structure the space by creating a very pleasant focal point.

The exterior floor lamp for height lighting

Take height with the outdoor floor lamp. Available in solar or classic version, the exterior lamp is strategically placed to illuminate a vast area. You fear that it is too powerful for a relaxing or reading area? So, opt for a pilotable model, like our Alto LED solar lamp. Remote control, it offers a light intensity of 400 to 3,000 lumens. You can even manage the lighting tint and switch from cold white to warm white. The Alto LED floor lamp adapts to every occasion! You can also choose a outdoor door for terrace, for example. Lower than the streetlight, it provides a very interesting light.

Lighting a reading or relaxing corner in the garden: all our practical tips for a successful installation

Creating a cosy and well-lit corner in your garden is simple... when you know how to take it! Here are all our tips to make your space both practical and charming.

1 - Choosing the right location: the basis of the approach

What is the place of your garden that is most suitable for relaxation? This is the first question you need to ask yourself. Prefer a space sheltered from the eyes. Choose a place close to a wall, tree or landscape element that can serve as a support or background. Also think of the proximity with electrical outlets... unless you opt for solar lighting.

2 - Orient the light properly!

A poorly oriented lighting, and you find yourself dazzled or then plunged into the shadow, adds Christophe Coelho. The orientation of light is essential. Make sure the light flow arrives directly where you need it, without being aggressive. Direct your luminaires to light directly your reading or relaxing area, without risking fatigue of your eyes.

3 - Opt for the right height

For optimal lighting, respect these heights:

  • You have lamps to put down? They are perfect at table height, just at eye level.

  • The light should be well distributed without disturbing shadow.

4 - Avoiding light nuisances

Excessive (or poorly positioned) lighting can disrupt the tranquillity of space, wildlife and even your neighbours! So avoid the light too bright or directed towards the surrounding areas. There is no question here of creating light pollution or of disturbing the soothing atmosphere.

5 - Mixing sources for a perfect atmosphere!

For a corner that makes you want to install at any time, play with the different types of lighting. By combining several sources of light, you can vary the atmosphere:

Mix functional lighting (for example, a table lamp) with decorative lighting (such as garlands or garlands). LED solar lanterns) to enrich the atmosphere.

Use variable intensity bulbs to adjust the brightness according to usage.

Prefer hot-tone bulbs (2,700 K to 3,000 K) that bring a cosy and relaxing light, perfect for relaxation.

6 - Create a place that enhances your garden

As always, it is not because you want to create a practical space, that you must forget the aesthetics. Your reading or relaxing area must be as beautiful as it is comfortable. To do this, add cozy furniture, but weather resistant (poufs, cushions, deckchair for relaxation, etc.). Complete with brightly coloured plants that bring freshness, aesthetics and privacy. Insert a sunscreen for the day, like a shade veil, not forgetting luminaires with design. treated like ours Picasso lantern

Inside and outside, the reading or relaxing area still has beautiful days ahead of it. Despite the galloping addiction on the screens, there is still a place out of time, sheltered from the tumult, where you like to meet again to relax and escape, during the day... as in the evening. You now have all the good advice to make this place a real haven of peace, even after the night falls. It is up to you to play!
