How to choose a powerful outdoor spot?

Lumens, IP, lighting angle, power supply: the 4 criteria that decide whether your spot survives in winter.

How to choose a powerful outdoor spot?

A good outdoor spot is not just an eye-catching one. Four technical criteria determine whether it will really last in time, resist the seasons and deliver the light you need.

1. Lumens, not watts

The wattage indicates the consumption, not the brightness. For the actual brightness, it is the lumen which counts:

  • 10 – 80 lumens: decorative tags, atmosphere
  • 100 – 300 lumens: terminals and aisle appliqués
  • 500 – 1,500 lumens: entrance, garage, parking
  • 2000+ lumens: projectors, large facades, safety

2. The IP index, the only guarantee of waterproofness

The IP is a two-digit code: dust, then water. For external use in France, aim at a minimum IP44. For ground lighting near a gutter or swimming pool, IP65 or more.

Lumihome publishes the exact IP on each product sheet. No marketing round.

3. Solar, 230V or 12V?

Three solutions, three cases of use. The solar is unbeatable for flexibility and zero cost but depends on the sun. The 230V guarantees constant power but requires a connection (and often an electrician). The 12V low voltage is ideal around the swimming pools and for secure self-installation.

4. Manufacturing quality

Failures do not come from LEDs — they come from joints, motion sensor (UV ageing), battery (12 to 24 months on cheap models) and foot (rust). stainless steel or heat-lapped aluminium, with replaceable lithium battery.

In summary

For an outdoor spot that lasts: lumens adapted to your use, IP44 minimum (65 if direct exposure), consistent power supply with your project, and quality materials. Lumihome masteres the 4 criteria on the entire range.

How to light a terrace without electricity?

The exterior lighting highlights the homes. Aesthetic, it is also very practical. But, how to realize it when it was not thought upstream? How to illuminate the exteriors while the electrical connections are not available? It is impossible in your opinion? Do you misunderstand, with theSolar lighting It is quite possible to light up a terrace without electricity.

Solutions to illuminate a terrace without electricity

There are several solutions to light up and enjoy your terrace without using electricity. But, be careful, not all solutions are valid. We help you to make the right choice.

Bad ideas

When summer arrives and you want to enjoy your sun terrace in the evening fall, you might be tempted to equip yourself with battery lamps. So yes, these products can help you for a while, but you will have to constantly change the batteries and you will get tired of it quickly. Besides being not practical, these lamps are also expensive in the long run since you will have to buy batteries regularly. Not to mention the environmental impact of this type of use! Batteries are difficult to recycle. So this is not a good idea. So, How to light up your terrace without electricity? You can use candles. It is true that this solution is much more ecological than the first one, but is it sufficiently practical? And above all, is it really effective? A candle (or even several) can certainly create an intimate and pleasant atmosphere for a romantic evening, but it will not be able to illuminate your terrace in the long term. Again, this is not the solution.

Good ideas

To light up your terrace without electricity, solar lighting remains the best solution. It is supplied free of charge with the energy of the sun and has increasingly advanced technologies to offer you a light worthy of 230V. This is the case for example of Lumihome products that benefit from bright lighting capable of lighting a terrace, entrance or aisle. So it is an economical, practical and ecological solution, which you can also place anywhere you want. Even if we tend to believe that solar lighting does not work. This is part of the shots and misconceptions about solar lighting. The Lumihome solar terminals and appliqués are equipped with a latest generation solar sensor that accepts less direct light to operate and recharge batteries efficiently. Yes, this is the principle of solar lighting. In the daytime, the battery captures light and stores it wisely, then transforms it into energy in the evening and illuminates your spaces.

The best solar lighting for your terrace

To light up your terrace, you can have a choice of different types of solar products.

Solar appliqués

These LED lights will bring you powerful lighting, and especially very well suited to illuminate your terrace. At Lumihome we offer you a range of solar LED appliqués. The Venus range is very popular. It is equipped with a motion sensor that allows your appliqué to only light up if necessary, which preserves its battery and eliminates unnecessary light losses. Simple to install, the Venus solar terminal attaches itself directly to the desired surface, thanks to a screw-up system. Its stainless steel design. The sun is sobriety that you can adapt perfectly to your terrace, whether traditional or contemporary. Don't hesitate to discover all our other solar models: Luna, Daytona, or Living, you will find the perfect solar solution for your terrace.

Solar terminals

The solar terminals are reserved for signs and signals on the alleys and terraces, and are therefore an ideal way to illuminate your space. The solar terminals provide diffuse and high lighting that allows you to create a pleasant atmosphere without dazzling the guests. 的Discover our solar terminals Venus or Luxor and let yourself be charmed by their inimitable style and contemporary lines. The Luxor terminal has the great speciality of being timeless. Effective, it is also very aesthetic and will bring some charm to your terrace, both at night and during the day. Christophe Coelho. Like the appliqués, the Lumihome solar terminals are very easy to install. No cable to pass, no connection to be foreseen, just screw the terminal on the intended surface. Browse our site to discover our entire range of solar terminals.

Solar spots

If you want to mark your terrace, but you have young children who play regularly outside, you can prefer the solar spots to the terminals. Integrated into your terrace, they are completely safe and bring an undeniable charm whether your terrace is made of wood or tiled. Lumihome has created the kit of 3 stainless steel spots to be built up. With their remote solar panel, they allow to illuminate the most shaded terraces, since you can place the sun-deported solar panel in full sun. The spots spaced at equal distance will allow to create a warm atmosphere and enjoy fully your terrace thanks to their 100 lumen lighting per spot. Whether you wish to read, dinner with friends, or simply enjoy the freshness of summer evenings, the solar spots will light up your terrace without electricity.

Electricity is therefore not a necessity to effectively illuminate a terrace. Solar lighting now makes it possible to illuminate the exteriors easily, efficiently, economically and completely environmentally friendly.
