Maintain solar bollards so they last longer

Solar bollards are nearly maintenance-free. "Nearly" matters. Here's the 10-minute quarterly routine that doubles their lifespan.

Clean the panel · monthly in spring/summer

Dust, pollen, bird droppings — a film you can't see at arm's length cuts charging efficiency by 30%. Damp microfiber, no solvents. 30 seconds per fixture.

Cycle the battery · once per quarter

Lithium batteries hate sitting at 100%. If your bollard has an off switch, flip it off for one day every 3 months and let the battery fully discharge before turning back on. This re-calibrates the protection circuit.

Winter storage · climates below −10°C

Most Lumihome bollards run down to −20°C in our tests, but lithium chemistry hates extreme cold. If your bollards spend more than 2 weeks at below −10°C, the kindest move is to lift them, store dry indoors at room temperature.

When to replace the battery

Runtime drops by more than 50% over a single season → battery is fading. Lumihome ALTO line uses standard 18650 cells, replaceable with a Philips-head screwdriver in under 5 minutes.
