Just like your garden lighting, to light an outdoor pathway properly, you need to take into account various criteria such as safety, aesthetics and energy efficiency. Here's our advice:
- Choose the right type of luminaire: bollards, bollard posts, recessed spotlights, floodlights and so on. It all depends on the lighting effect you want. Bollard lights provide uniform illumination, recessed spotlights are ideal for discreet illumination, while spotlights highlight a specific point on your driveway.
- Make sure the light is evenly distributed: this avoids shadows and creates a harmonious effect. To achieve this, place your light sources at regular intervals on either side of the path. This ensures good lighting and an uninterrupted, well-marked path.
- Use motion detectors: to combine comfort, energy savings and safety, outdoor lights with motion detectors are perfect. The light only comes on when it's needed.
- Opt for weather-resistant fixtures: this will ensure the durability of your outdoor lighting.
- Opt for LED solutions: LED bulbs are ideal for their low energy consumption and long life.
If you want your walkways to light up automatically as soon as night falls, you can use lights with motion and twilight sensors. Using the twilight sensor, your bollards automatically switch on at 500 lumens as soon as night falls, providing a constant, automatic light all night long.

Your choice will depend not only on the type of luminaire used, but also on the power of the light and the width of the aisle. We usually recommend a distance of 2.5 to 4 metres on the ground between each luminaire and 1.5 to 2 metres on the ground between each spotlight. However, these distances can vary according to the design of the aisle, the desired ambience and the height of the luminaires used. Don't hesitate to ask for advice on the number of light points you need to mark out your garden pathways.
